Match Report: Mathare United Women FC 0 Gaspo Women FC 1
A mouthwatering encounter against Gaspo Women FC was the order of the day in our matchday 11 played at Camp Toyoyo grounds. A solitary goal in the second half was the difference.
We started the match quite well as usual. Two chances in the first minutes were not a surprise. Stacy Adhiambo could have buried one but a defender blocked it. The another can from a corner, the keeper missed the ball but Dorah Achieng' could not find the net.
We had most of the ball in the first period and that gave us the momentum to play it at the visitors' half. The game ended goalless at the break.
In the second half, the visitors' came blazing looking for a goal but we contained the very well. The did find one after we failed to clear a corner and a first-time volley from Wambui found our net.
The visitors' were awarded a penalty kick after the ball was assumed to be handled in the box by our defender Lucy Akoth. They clashed it on to the crossbar, What a miss!!! There was tension as a freekick resulted immediately after the missed penalty but it was put way out for a goal kick.
Our players showed character throughout the game and thanks to the keeper who kept us in the match on several occasions by her flexy saves.
Stacy Adhiambo would have levelled things out for us but she was caught offside as she latched on to a through pass from Diana Wachera.
